Hala 🤩,

Almost Everything is a Design, your city, your street, your house, your cheer, your laptop, your body, your organs, even every single cell, Design is anything, and everything.

The Design is older than us,

Our planet natural is rich with millions of samples of design, if you break it down into smaller components you will figure out more an of micro-designs. For me, that’s why I fall in love with the design, it’s the way of universe creation.

Design principles are many, for example, Golden ratio. you can view the next video to learn more about golden ratio implementation in the universe around you.

What is Design?

As Dictionary defines Design, it is a plan or drawing produced to show the look and function or workings of a building, garment, or other objects before it is made.

The design is the creation of a plan or convention for the construction of an object, system or measurable human interaction (as in architectural blueprints, engineering drawings, business processes, circuit diagrams, and sewing patterns). The design has different connotations in different fields (Applied Arts, Architecture, Communication design, Experience design, Fashion design, Game design, Graphic design. etc). In some cases, the direct construction of an object (as in pottery, engineering, management, coding, and graphic design) is also considered to use design thinking.

Designing often necessitates considering the aesthetic, functional, economic, and sociopolitical dimensions of both the design object and design process. It may involve considerable research, thought, modeling, interactive adjustment, and re-design. Meanwhile, diverse kinds of objects may be designed, including clothing, graphical user interfaces, products, skyscrapers, corporate identities, business processes, and even methods or processes of designing.

I really recommend reading this page about design in Wikipedia.

Design vs. Art

The subject of what separates art and design is convoluted and has been debated for a long time. Artists and designers both create visual compositions using a shared knowledge base, but their reasons for doing so are entirely different.

Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works.

– Steve Jobs

Further Reading,

A Designer is a Problem Solver,

Designers have a reason behind whatever they do, they solve a certain problem (depends on their different fields). if you are a UX designer, you are solving a usability problem – your job is to figure out how this features could be represented a usable way for your users, how to drive users to make benefits out of the system without omission the business goals and other aspects.

Further Readings, Design is About Solving Problems

Another example, A Branding designer is solving another kind of problems, it’s about how to represent the brand/product to the audience, he may think about voice and tone, visual feelings, and emotional links between the brand and customers, etc..

Millions of example could be mentioned, but for now, it’s enough and let’s move to the next point.

We are designers by natural,

From the early days for us on the earth, we start to face many kinds of problems and we start to solve it by design. yep – by design.

it’s not about the Industrial Revolution, let’s think about the first innovation mankind had made? about 10 million years ago, Humans make the first tools from stone, wood, antlers, and bones. The use of Knives as weapons and tools dates back to Prehistoric Times! it was a solution for problems, people need to cut hard things, they need something to use as in defense.

not only the knives, there are many other innovations back to Prehistoric Times, I recommend to read those articles to find out more,

Every single day we design, we change the shape of natural things, we re-arrange many things, and we do many things that actually just a design, on a way or another, it still a design – it actually a problem solve.

For now, that’s all. and on the next article we will talk about problem solving process and we gonna clarify the idea of the 4 I’s, it’s reflections on the design methodologies and frameworks and how you should think about design methodologies and frameworks.
